Driver Hire is the UK’s largest specialist road transport and logistics recruitment company, supplying driving and logistics staff to organisations nationwide. On any given day, around 2,500 people will be out working for Driver Hire customers. Driver Hire is celebrating 30 years in business in 2013.
Driver Hire has over 100 offices, with comprehensive coverage of every part of the UK, from Inverness to Cornwall. This is a major competitive advantage for the business, since its competitors either cannot cover the whole country, or are not genuine specialists in the logistics sector.
The company offers a full range of temporary and permanent recruitment services. It is perhaps best known for its quality of service and regulatory compliance in the supply of temporary drivers across all licence types, winning many awards for this service. Driver Hire also supplies workers to cover a wide range of other logistics-related roles.
In addition to its traditional core activities, Driver Hire is a business that is constantly evolving and innovating, adding new services to its portfolio. In recent years it has successfully introduced Training and eServices divisions.
Driver Hire Training is the UK’s leading single provider of classroom-based Driver CPC training. The company’s eServices division provides eLearning packages and has successfully launched an online driving licence checking service.
Driver Hire has been trading successfully and profitably since 1983. The company has emerging strongly from the economic downturn, not least because its core product offering is ideally suited to uncertain economic times, injecting flexibility into its customers’ employment costs.
Prior to commencing trading, franchisees attend a two-week residential Foundation Course at Driver Hire’s Head Office. This interactive course provides a detailed overview of both the recruitment and logistics sectors. Course content includes the Driver Hire product range, winning and keeping business, pricing, candidate recruitment, compliance, operating the IT system and running an office on a day-to-day basis.
Once a franchisee commences trading, ongoing training is delivered through the Franchise Support Programme. This training is facilitated by the franchisee’s dedicated Area Development Manager (ADM) and helps to increase knowledge, over a period of months. The ADM will also provide hands-on training e.g. joint customer visits, to help the franchisee grow their business.
Specific training courses are also available for franchisees, including appointment making and account management.
There are 60 permanent staff at Head Office to support Driver Hire’s national network of franchisees and offices. Examples of the specialist support available include:
Marketing – Huge range of professional marketing material available and marketing campaigns. Each franchise is provided with its own ‘micro-site’ on the Driver Hire website, which includes an online jobs board
IT – Helpdesk to support any IT related problems
National accounts – A team of sales staff winning national account business
Finance – Support with financial plans and ongoing financial health-checks
Area Manager – Dedicated manager to help franchisees grow their business
